last but not least, one of my fav artists since i discovered dadaism freshman year of High School. but i only recently found this piece through my explorations on the Tumblr Social Network.

I have in mind the occasion when Marcel Duchamp got hold of some friends to show them a cage which seemed to have no birds in it, but to be half-full of lumps of sugar. He asked them to lift the cage and they were surprised at its heaviness. What they had taken for lumps of sugar were really small lumps of marble which at great expense Duchamp had had sawn up specially for the purpose. The trick in my opinion is no worse than any other, and I would even say that it is worth nearly all the tricks of art put together.

p kevvl, rite? my bestie is writing a play rite now feat. a rat named Duchamp in a cage. it is pretty zany, i like it.
Well that ends this series of Tumblr posts. Hope that answers your question, Alex, and thanks for asking! Oh, there was some thread I wanted 2 put through these posts but kinda forgot sry:
For comedy these men have dedicated their Body [Korine lost the ability to tap dance 4ever after breaking too many bones by getting the shit kicked out of him], their Digity [General American Cultural Middle Class prob doesn’t want to see the exploitation (?) of workers in the porn industry making films for some sillie collective], and their Money [just kind of assuming by “at great expense” Breton meant Duchamp paid $large_sum for those marble cubes. But then again Marcie seems pretty bougie so idk. Does anyone know?].
Soon I will find three comedic women, post a picture of them, add a link, and text for my Tumblr Site/Public Journal.

Rrose Sélavy, or Rose Sélavy, was one of the pseudonyms of artist Marcel Duchamp. The name, a pun, sounds like the French phrase “Eros, c’est la vie”, which translates to English as “eros, that’s life”. It has also been read as “arroser la vie” (“to make a toast to life”).
